Playa del Carmen
is one of the fastest growing towns in the Caribbean. An international mix of travelers come here to enjoy the beaches, cultural activities, coral reefs, underground riviers, restaurants, clubs and just generally immerse themselves in the tropical splendor of it all.
The locals and those travelers who come often simply refer to it as “Playa”
The first thing people notice about Playa is how European it is. From the architecture to the open restaurants, to the people watching, you sense you are in a piazza in Italy or a plaza in Spain. You’ll hear accents of people walking by: Italian, Spanish, French, German, and American. Only about half the tourists are American, so you get an international flavor not rivaled anywhere else in Mexico.
Playa del Carmen is in the middle of the Riviera Maya in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico’s Caribbean vacationland.

Once in Playa, there is no need for a car, as you can walk everywhere. Stroll the famous 5th Ave, which is pedestrian only and a beauty at night with lights. This is where everyone goes to find a place for dinner at one of the hundreds of outdoor restaurants, clubs, bars and shops. The 5th, as the locals call it, is about 2 miles long, cobblestone, and has everything from local restaurants to Starbucks. From Italian, Japanese and Mexican cuisine to gellato and tequilla bars. There’s something for everyone.

Walk the 5th at night
For those of you who have been to Playa del Carmen, Mexico, you know that Paradise has been found. White beaches, crystal clear waters, in the distance Cozumel, world famous 5th Ave, perfect weather, an eclectip European town, is a wonderful destination place.

Playa is just 60 kilometers from Cancun, but nothing like Cancun. Playa del Carmen, in Mexico’s Riviera Maya in the Yucatan Pensinsula, offers a unique charm untainted from the commercial overbuilding, Spring Breakers, and tourism found in Cancun.
Nestled in the backdrop of the Mayan ruins, this old fishing village offers something for everyone. Adventurers will enjoy archeological sites, exploring the underground rivers, parasailing, and scuba diving in the famed Palancar Reef. For those who want to take it easy, sit in an outdoor coffee shop and people watch yourself through the afternoon sipping a latte or a margharita on the beach.
